The information superhighways were considered synonymous with the alluring new world of the Internet and an indispensable prerequisite for enjoying the unlimited possibilities of the information age. Innovative broadband technology was also supposed to drive profitable new business models. Compared with other countries, however, Germany is in danger of missing out on the opportunities of this promising technology.
